AISI Commends Levin and Camp for Leading Bi-Partisan Efforts to Send Currency Legislation to the Floor for a Vote

We appreciate greatly the leadership by Ways and Means Committee Chairman Sander Levin (D-MI) and Ranking Member Dave Camp (R-MI), who forged bi-partisan support for this critical bill.  For far too long U.S. manufacturers have suffered due to China’s unfair trade practices.  We look forward to the same kind of bi-partisanship when the full House votes on this legislation.”

It is particularly rewarding to see this swift action on Steel Day 2010- a day that celebrates the importance of steel and how it contributes to building not only a strong America, but a strong economy.  The steel industry is the backbone of America, but it has been undercut by China’s trade distorting policies.  We urge the House to take up and approve this bill next week and then send it to the Senate for swift bipartisan action prior to the midterm elections.  Nothing will send a clearer message to China that they must play by the rules and that we will no longer tolerate their refusal to comply with WTO obligations.”  - AISI President and CEO Thomas J. Gibson
