Steel Comment of the Week
“More than 30,000 Hoosiers make their livelihoods in the steel industry, and thousands more have jobs in related sectors.

Over the past decade, U.S. steel companies and workers have taken important – and often painful – steps to make the industry more competitive, and these efforts should not be undermined by the predatory actions of foreign producers.

Illegal subsidies for foreign steel producers and other unfair trade practices pose a direct threat to American jobs and demand forceful action.
I’ve testified before the International Trade Commission to highlight China’s efforts to undercut our steel industry by dumping unfairly subsidized products on our markets, and I will continue to push for strict enforcement of our trade laws.

The hardworking men and women of America’s steel industry play a vital role in our economy and can compete with any worker around the world, but they deserve a level playing field.” - Senator Evan Bayh (D-IN)
